Name change

I'm a dual US/UK citizen and recently legally changed my name in the US. I plan to also update my name in the UK to this name. Ideally I would get the name change enrolled but the process seems arduous at best. Given that I can update the name on all of my major documents/accounts (e.g. passport, dr...

How would the UK leaving the EU affect my work rights?

I'm a US/UK dual citizen, which gives me the right to work in the US and EEA (which includes EU members) without a permit. If the UK left the EU, would my rights - e.g. which countries I'm allowed to work in without a permit - be more restricted, and if so how?

Why can't posts be edited after a while?

I noticed that posts now become uneditable after a while. I don't think this was always the case on this site. I think it would be better if posts remained editable. Sometimes, for instance, someone may want to remove information they would rather have private, or update a post with new information ...

Re: Can citizenship be revoked if out of the country for lon

No, there is not. I think I should've worded the question more like this: Is there a rule in which being out of the UK for a certain time can cause British citizenship to be revoked, like there is with an ILR visa? Say I get my citizenship, then soon move back to the US indefinitely due to a job ch...

Can citizenship be revoked if out of the country for long?

Is there a time limit rule for being out of the UK before British citizenship can be revoked, like there is with an ILR visa? Say I get my citizenship, then soon move back to the US indefinitely due to a job change / etc.

Re: Forgot to submit driving license which was used for the

Spoke with the NCS again to verify. The NCS has a special agreement with the Home Office. There is a general checkbox/list they check that essentially confirms everything's okay with the application; reportedly nothing specific about driving licenses. Thus they normally don't send a driving license ...

Forgot to submit driving license which was used for the test

Submitted my form AN today via NCS with passport and Life in the UK test pass certificate as supporting documents. Forgot to submit driving license which was used for the test. The AN docs say it's expected the same doc used for the test is used for the form. Called the NCS who said they wouldn't wo...

Re: Successful applications after cautions?

You get my sympathy for being a fellow migrant but I think that anyone with a conviction or caution should be rejected! Why? The caseworker will probably not reject your application on the basis of a caution (they have bigger fish to fry). Good luck with your application. Probably not. However, som...

The applicant would probably have to wait about a year anyway to be eligible for applying if they don't apply during a certain range this year, due to otherwise being outside of the UK 5 years before the date until then. Since the eligibility issue in this case is technically a grey area I'm not sur...

Contacting the UKBA

Regarding citizenship and nationality inquiries, it seems like there are two email addresses but no phone number listed. ukbanationalityenquiries@ukba.gsi.gov.uk just sends standardised responses nowadays. Has anyone actually gotten a reply by emailing FurtherNationalityEnquiries@ukba.gsi.gov.uk? Wh...

If an app is unsuccessful, how long until one can reapply?

I thought I read somewhere that if an application is unsuccessful then one can apply again in 1 year from the date of the previous application, but on a recent search I haven't found it mentioned in the guide or website. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Successful applications after cautions?

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone here has been refused citizenship on the basis of a caution even though the application was made AFTER 3 years of the caution? I realise that applying WITHIN 3 years of the caution is a probable rejection, but I haven't seen anyone mention that they got accepted AFTER the...

Now, however, it sounds like "spent" and "unspent" convictions are no long a consideration for naturalisation. If I am reading the rules correctly, the UKBA has set up its own standards for the "Good Character" requirement. That's what I understood as well. But for som...

Re: thank you Gyfrinachgar

A caution is an admittance of guilt, depending on the offence it may still create a decision that you have not met the good character requirement even after 3 years. E.g. An offence for dishonesty, recklessness or a sexual or violence offence. Cheers for reiterating that it's an admittance of guilt...

Three years from the date of the offence. So if the caution was given on 22nd may 2011 then you would automatically be refused until 23rd May 2014. A caution is a non custodial conviction for the purpose of the good character requirement. Therefore, a caution related to a violent offence may still ...

December 2012 rule changes regarding cautions

Within the last 3 years I received a police caution for common assault. I have a police record but neither a charge nor a conviction. I was planning to apply for British citizenship by naturalisation later this year, when it will still be within 3 years of the caution. My initial research suggested ...
