CONTRACT SHOULD BE AT HAND

The whole matter is having a contract first.

If you have a contract ALREADY at hand, only then the umbrella companies will arrange tier 2 sponsorship for you.

If you have contracts, I know number of companies providing tier 2 sponsorship and I can send you their details in PM.

There are some companies which say that they will get you visa first and then they will give you time to search for contract works, THIS IS scam, do not go for those companies.

Spam 8 or Spam is one of those companies.

It depends on type of institute you are getting admission in, if your institute is HEI then you and your dependent have chances of getting a work entitlement.

Also, 1 year rule seems valid

If you are an American, you would not have problems re-entering UK any time, why don't you ask UKBA to send your passport back, if you really need to visit your home country, go and do it and come back. I'm not sure but I think you can apply from inside the UK again.
