My experience today: - Normal PhotoMe photos were fine (well, at the least they didn't question them) - Avoid taking a laptop! You aren't allowed to go in with one and there is no storage facility. I had to take the risk and leave it at a nearby newsagent who charged me £3. - Got there just before ...

In case anyone else is ever in the same situation, my final position when I made my application was that I had 135 days out of the country in the 1 year preceding my application. However, as most of this was due to my work, I got a letter from my employer confirming this and also stating that I cont...

Re: ILR documents check for work permit for 5 years

I didn't ask him specifically about the naturalisation certificate but I did ask 3 times if I could really turn up without the approval letter and he said yes. Will just see how it goes tomorrow I guess.

Naturalisation - Date first entered with a view to staying

Hi all, A question on Question 2.1 of Form AN - "Date and place of first arrival in the UK" I'm applying on the basis of the 4+1 rule and my 1 year ILR will complete on 30th January 2007. However, on 30th January 2002, I was here on a visitors visa and remained in the country while my Work...

Naturalisation: 90 day rule exemptions?

Hi, I'll be eligible to apply for British citizenship on 1st Feb 2007 (completion of 5 years in the country with the last 12 months on ILR). However, from 1st Feb 2006 to 1st Feb 2007, I will have been out of the country for 140 days and this is entirely because of work i.e. my UK company requires m...

Maybe my calculation is incorrect, but leaving aside discretion for excess absences, it seems to me that an absence of 4 months would reset the naturalisation clock by a whole year, not one month. I can't see that at all .... can you explain? Mathematically! A couple of worked examples? For simplic...

John: I'll be well within 450 days; probably around 250 in total if I end up spending 4 months away this year.

lemess: Thanks for the heads up. Sounds like a nutty rule but hey. I spent most of March and April 2002 overseas so that's definitely a point to consider.

Cheers

Thanks Lemess. Makes a lot of sense. I also just read the below in "Guide AN (NEW)" from the IND website and it will hopefully be helpful to others. Excess absences in the final year are considered in the following way Total not exceeding 100 days - we normally disregard Total absences of ...

Naturalisation: Any flexibility on 90 day rule?

Hi I got my ILR today! :D Many thanks to this board and John in particular. I also subsequently got a call from work asking me to fly out to India for 4 months for work. I am aware that you should not have been out of the country for more than 90 days in the 12 months preceding a naturalisat...

Thanks John. I was more concerned about accusations of 'working illegally' given the difference in dates between when my contract started and when the work permit was issued.

Hi, newbie here. Great site btw! I'm facing the same uncertainty as most people here as I am currently on a WP and have 10 months left before I qualify for ILR (under the 4 year rule anyway). Reading the details on BBC Interactive last night, there seemed to be a suggestion that the rules will apply...
