Antontony,

Was your self employment in an industry other than what you qualified for under HSMP?

That's what I'm trying to find out; if I can be self-employed in another industry other than what qualified for under HSMP.

Thanks!

Larry, Where is your home country? What geographic area of the UK are looking for work? As an Oragle DBA you should not have any difficulty finding work. The UK is very heavily into "hard skills" (e.g. programming, development, etc.) versus "soft skills" (e.g. general management,...

Hi Kumi! Yes, I totally understand about getting a really good job right out of the gate. And I am completely willing to take a lower paying job. To be perfectly honest, the money comes secondary to me....if I really enjoy what I am doing, then the money provides the icing on the cake (sorry about a...

Thanks everyone! Although I am a certified PM, I am also very much "hands-on" in my roles and experience. I have many years experience as a network engineer, network architect, and database programmer. However, all of my recent experience (past 7 years) is that of Technical PM, IT Director...

rlo2tlj Take it easy - It’s just a matter of time with a combination of your luck before you hit the right one. I don't think being 'American' is a reason for no job offer or discrimination here. Thank you! That is refreshing to know. It's quite fun when I'm in Sainsbury's, Tesco, or Asda and I beg...

rlo- dont worry about being deported :) the UK cant even manage to deport known militants, so I doubt youll be on the hit list :) Besides, you have a long time yet before you are up for HSMP renewal- some people get a job two months before renewal and still get it OR they have mediocre jobs just to...

Hi Amhilde, Thank you for your suggestions. I have been trying to get a contract position in addition to permanant. Nothing. I have even thought of using a friend to pose as a former supervisor of a contract position, but that's fraud. I have even shaved 10 years off my telecom history. I'm at wits ...

The business would be non-IT related. And, yes, although IT jobs in the UK "appear" to be abundant, actually securing a position is another story. When you're a foreign-national and over 40 years of age, it is VERY difficult. Age descrimination is very prevalent in the UK. I am only resear...

Age Descrimination? Anti-American Sentiment?

Hi All! I have been in the UK for a bit over 2 months now. I hold a HSMP visa. I am having a very difficult time gaining employment here. I have applied to over 80 postings and have had only 1 interview. That interview was unsuccessful because I "lack UK experience". I had one recruiter te...

My solicitor notified me that my HSMP Application was refused (Sent Jan 26th, refused Feb 8th) due to the fact that a supporting document (an employer referral as to Gradutate/Senior Level experience) had not been sent with the original application; even tho in the original appl...
