Hi. Sent an email to Home Office with the same question. Received answer today: "There are cases where discretion can be applied to excess absences, although it doesn’t appear your absence would be considered as excessive as it is under the allowance of 450 days in the 5 year qualifying period...

Just a thought.
A lot of applications's fees in October 2014 are being debited 15 days after application. Christmas mode on me thinks, but hopefully will be getting replies in mid January 2015.

Royal Mail tracking says it arrived without a problem. If you notice the dates in this thread though, it's taking around two weeks (compared to one before) for the payment to be taken and acknowledgement letter to be sent out.
