Eligibility date for ILR

Hi, I'm sure this question has been asked many times and I've been through everywhere but I keep getting conflicting information about the date to apply for ILR! My wife was granted a spouse visa in Islamabad Date of issue: 21st April 2005 Date of arrival to the UK: 15th May 2005 Date of expiry: 20t...

21 Weeks does sound excessive. 1. Whats the status of your application on www.visadropbox using the Fedex reciept? 2. When you call them what do they actually say about the application? Bear in mind your wife will have to call as they wont release details to anyone, not even you. Once they give you ...

new EU law

Saw this http://euobserver.com/9/21489 Wonder if anyone knows what directive this is and I'm especially interested in the para which says, Also, when an EU citizen travelling with their family to a European country which is not a part of the bloc's borderless agreement, the family members will not r...

Mars, I dont think the islamabad mission does interviews as a matter of course. because of the security situation, they dont like people coming to the diplomatic enclave, so instead they want people to submit complete paperwork so they can just give the decision on that. I think you may be right, th...

Well it isnt completely up to date no, but lets say your visa is ready to be picked up days ago, but they havent contacted you/cant contact you, this should be enough time for the visadropbox to be updated. its not great as a primary source to check whether the visa has been issued but if you havent...

Shaffi, If its been 12 weeks theres no harm in giving them a call. Problem is its really hard getting through on their helpline, plus you cant call, your wife will have to. Get her to call as soon as the lines open, they will ask her to quote the computer reference numbers etc on the fedex slip and ...

Since you've been married and lived abroad for more than 4 years, your husband will qualify for ILR (permanent residency) in the UK. See the website of the BHC missions in india at http://www.ukinindia.com for more info.

Yawa, I dont know what you mean when you say they need a 'reference'. I can tell you this kind of thing doesnt really happen in NL, or in most other countries in Europe. You wont get rejected from a job just because you dont have a 'reference' or a 'contact' there. Question is do you have the right ...

Zinc,

Might be slightly off-topic, but Gulf Air now flies direct from DUB, with onward connections to ISB/LHE/KHI, that might be better for you as you wont have to worry about connecting in the UK.

Also (and I could be wrong here so please correct me if I am) the 'new' EU countries have certain restrictions, like you say. However these can kept be in place until 2011. You mention that Poles will be allowed to work in 2007, I havent heard this and I suspect you mean that France will 'review' th...

Marie,
Sounds like good news!
I would go with the France solution rather than Greece. Or even Netherlands, I have had some experience with their embassy and they issued my (non-EU) wife a 6-month multiple entry schengen visa within 2 weeks (including postage times)
All the best

Yep, for future Schengen visits its probably useful to go to the French (or even Dutch) embassies for a visa. the "Your husband does have the right to have an automatic (and free) visa" isnt as easy as it sounds, you're right John, however if they do start giving you a hard time about it, ...

Interesting question, I cant seem to find the Irish Embassy London website either! Your husband does have the right to have an automatic (and free) visa, as you are travelling to another member state of the EU. This is verified at http://europa.eu.int/youreurope/nav/en/citizens/factsheets/ie/entryin...

Dinsey, if you dont live in london then try looking up a local consulate in the yellow pages (the Netherlands has lots of vice-consulates all over the country) and you could use them to send out your visa application. If you live in london then you could apply through the French or the Dutch, as the...

I dont think Child Tax credits/Child benefit matter as they are given to nearly everyone employed with children. Same with working tax credit (in fact, everyone earning up to about 50,000 p.a. gets something if they apply for WTC!) So I dont think its a problem, if your husband applies for it (assum...

Nope it wont change anything unfortunately.

However, if your spouse is British (or an EU citizen), its very easy to get a schengen visa (you wont be treated like any other non-EU applicant, rather a spouse of an EU citizen)

Certified Copies are acceptable at the BHC in Islamabad. Although if you get them certified, i have read somewhere you have to get each page in the passport certified. even the blank ones.
