Thanks ravisb_2014.

So this means that visa can be extended for a stretch of 5 years at one go and not beyond that implying that if my employer can stretches my visa for another 3 years, there is a possibility of me being eligible for ILR.

Thanks! I would suggest you to tell your employer about your situation and can ask them to see if they can do anything to expedite the process from their end. I had submitted the application on 19th September and received it on 18th October so you can say almost 30 calendar days and about 18 working...
