Being a qualified person can be enough. You could, for example, legitimately get a Schengen visa for a honeymoon in Paris and take the Eurostar to London, without obtaining a family permit. An unmarried partner is an extended family member, and you must have cohabited for 2 years as a couple.

IMO, if you are not getting paid in UK and only coming to attend meeting etc, u should be fine. There is no passport control at any station within the Schengen zone. I was at Gare De L'est last tue/wed and never saw any. Paris is awful now BTW, I hated it.... To the innocent bystander - this looks like you are using the child to be with your UK girlfriend, how would you counteract that argument - it's what the UKVI will automatic presume...
