Yes any parent who has ilr he/she has to send photocopy of passport and I brp . When I apply for my kids only my hubby had ilr so I attach only his details .

For your first part of question apply through NSC service and they will take the photocopies and send you case while you will be able to keep originals with you. Home office accept laminated documents it's confirm but passport department never accept it .i read this while applying for my kids British passport you can read in guidance book .also suggest don't laminated your certificate till you get passport .hope this helps

It does not make any diff even if the test change because I pass 2nd edition test in dec 2012 .apply for ILR in feb 2014 and attach the old life in uk test got ILR without any problem and even I confirm from ho that if anyone pass any life in uk test it remains valid for whole life
