Can you please expand why it is not possible ?

I unfortunately had to leave the UK in September 2013 and my Tier 1 visa expired at the end of October 2013. I want to return to the UK on the 7th January 2014 and renew my Tier 1 visa. Does anyone know if this is possible? Is there a rule to say if your visa has expired you won't be able to renew? ...
