All I know is I gave it to the UK passport office in person in a plastic sleeve in pristine condition (unfolded) and it came back to me, missing it's plastic folder, folded, dog-eared and somewhat ruffled. I guess it was too much to expect them to have sent it back to me in the same condition I gave it to them. Maybe they wiped their arses with it?
Luckily my South African passports came back relatively unscathed.
I'm sure you got over that when you finally got your maroon book...

By the way, did you remember to apply for permission from the South African embassy before you aquired your British citizenship?
Oh yes, I wouldn't dare not too.
I know some folks who didn't do it (they got naturalised a few weeks ago), and now they have to send their ID books and SA passports back to SA House in London. I guess they don't have to, but legally they have no right to use them anymore...right? How will the SA government ever know?
