You need to be a lot more specific, if you want any meaningful advice:

- when were you born?
- what is your current nationality?
- where were your parents born and were they married?
- same question for your grandparents (both sets)?
- did your parents or grandparents naturalise in any country or territory?

Chris07,
To qualify for ancestral visa you require the following
-A grand parent, who was British born
-You must be a Commonwealth citizen 18 and over
-Proof of accomodation in the UK

Was born in 1981
Jamaican Nationality
Parents were born in Jamaica but at the time they werent married
Dad was born 1914 and Mom was born 1938
Jamaica gained independence 1962
Both grandpaents were born in Jamaica but werent married.
Grand parents were born in the late 1890's to early 1900's
They probably didnt naturalise as they were born during the British rule,
Our families who came here back in the early late 50's and early 60's
came on British passports.
Jamica gained independence 1962

Chris07,
Sorry but it looks like you have no claim to a Ancestral visa as your Grand Parents where not born in the UK.
But I don't understand why you can't claim a British nationality from your parents if they both have British nationality , which should be passed down from your Father.
But this is a bit of a grey area, did your Father register you at birth in the UK or with the High commision in Jamaica?

My parents were born british nationals in Jamaica while it was under British rule.
My Mother was born in 1938 and my dad in 1914.

However Jamaica became independent in 1962.

But according to http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/applyi ... e/guideukm

It states, mothers who WERE citizens of the Uk and colonies

Do you get my point. I may be wrong but could you explain please.

Your mother lost her British nationality in 1962 when she became a Jamaican citizen at independence. Unless by chance her father or grandfather was born in the UK or a place that remained a colony.

So if your mother wasn't British when you were born, you have no chance of getting British citizenship on this basis.

Bear in mind that when Jamaica became independent, it was (and is) entirely appropriate that Jamaicans should be citizens of that country - and not the United Kingdom.

So in the case of my mother's father who died before Jamaica took independence. Hence he died a british citizen. Can she claim from that?

No, not unless she was born in the UK or similar. If her grandparents were born in the UK, she might be able to get an ancestry visa, but that wouldn't do her adult children any good.
I am not, and cannot, offer legal advice to particular people. I can only discuss general areas of immigration law.

People should always consider obtaining professional advice about their own particular circumstances.
