Can I register consultancy company during Tier 2 General

Hi All,

I am here in UK on Tier 2 General Visa and my wife on tier 2 Dependent visa with me (She is also emplyed full time now). I get many offers for consultancy (as on the same lines of my job) , so I want to register a company (consultancy) here in UK along with my full time job (exactly on similar lines of my job profile). Is it possible? If not, can it be possible if I register the company on my wife's name? I have read on Gov website as well as forums, but still it's not clear.

Any help would be really appreciated.

You cannot do it yourself. But you should be able to contract via an umbrella company if they hire you as permanent part-time employee and you work outside of your main working hours. See "Supplementary Employment" in Tier 2 guidance.

Regarding your wife I'm not sure, but I knew a Tier 4 dependant who had his limited company and contracted full-time.

you and your wife both can register a company.
However, if i were u, i would register the company in my wife name, and then take it from there.
you can work 20 hrs without informing anyone and it'll be all legit.

Yes, 20 hours working condition I am aware of, just the confusion was can i open consultancy or I have to be employed. Anyways I guess you are right, register company on my wife's name and work 20 hours as a consultant as she is not restricted being dependent whereas I am restricted to the company.

On same lines. Working with current sponsor, as a second job can I be self employed (part time partner in business) for 20 hours a week in the same sector, same level of work

I believe the guidance stipulates that the employment should be permanent, but how HO interprets this is anyone's guess. I would play it safe and make it just that - in the same business or via umbrella company.
