Indian Surrender Certificate

Post by sidd12 » Mon Apr 14, 2014 7:54 pm

Hello Experts,

We plan to India after taking UK Citizenship cert & on Indian passport. I read that 3 months grace period is allowed, from the date on Citizenship cert.

Does it mean we have to enter & exit India within 3 months or can we enter India within 3 months and exit after 4 months?

Regards,
Sidd.

The 3 months grace period starts from the date you received British citizenship. So whatever the date on your certificate is + 3 months.

Sorry, I know 3 months from date of certificate issue.

But need clarification, if I have to enter and exit India in 3 months or if I can exit India after 4 months.

I don't understand why you say it is not active. If you use the search function or actually read through thread, I am sure you will find lots of information. This thread (just below your post) has lots of info.

Thank you for your support.

It appears that one has to enter & exit India within 3 months. eg. If UK Citizenship Certificate date says 01/05/14, one has to enter & exit before 31/07/14

We will just take Citizenship Certificate and apply for UK passport on return, after India trip.

3. A grace period of three months is allowed from the date of acquisition of foreign citizenship, for the purpose of travel on Indian passport. Therefore, no penalty will be leviable for travel on Indian passport within three months of acquisition of foreign passport.
