Tier 2 general migrant - visa category for my mother

Post by tier2migrant » Fri May 09, 2014 6:28 pm

Hi,
I am planning to invite my mother to come visit me in the UK. I am on a tier 2 general migrant PBS (point based) visa. Kindly let me know which visa category she should apply in. When I select "general", it asks three questions
Do you intend to work in the UK? NO
Is the main purpose of your trip to visit/stay with a close family relative who is settled in the UK? YES
Do you intend to study in the UK? NO

Since I have answered YES to the visit/stay with close family, I get a message that it may not be the right visa category...so kindly advise if I should answer yes/no and why because her main reason to visit me.

Many Thanks.

Answer "no" because you are not settled in the UK.

Many thanks.

There is a question under Employment and income section: what is the total cost to you personally of your trip in GBP?
Since I am bearing all her expenses of this trip, should I just write zero GBP there as she is not showing any proof of funds for this trip and I am covering that by providing statements and pay stubs in the UK.

Kindly advise.
Thanks.

yes you can enter no as you are covering all her costs.
but on a seperate note, i would strongly advise that she should be showing some of her finances in her home country.
otherwise, it can be deemed that she has no strong ties in her home country and may never return. you wont find this anywhere explicitly, however, this is from various personal experiences of my frined/family.
