Transit Visa (Spain) required for Indian Residents in UK

Post by nesh1257 » Fri Feb 07, 2014 11:53 pm

Hi,

I'm an Indian National holding Indian passport and a UK Residence permit (biometric card). The residence permit is valid until July 2015 and it's actually UK Tier 1 Visa. I have not yet got ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain) or Permanent Residency and can apply only after July 2015.

I'm about to go to Peru on a tourist Visa in Apr 2014.

There are no direct flights to Peru from London, and I wish to fly through Spain (Madrid). I'm not sure if I need a transit visa at Spain Madrid airport to reach final destination Peru (Lima). The connection has only 1 transfer i.e. LON - MADRID - LIMA. The way to come back is same.

I just don't want to ruin my holidays for not holding a transit visa.

I'll be grateful to you for providing your advise. It would actually be great if somebody can share a recent experience.

I appreciate your advise.

Thanks

Thanks, saw the post.

Is there a way to be absolutely sure? I'm bit worried about the distinction between being a 'resident' and 'permanent resident'

This is clearly marked in context of UK and It would be great if recent experience or definite guidance is there.

Appreciate your replies.

Thanks

Hi Guys

Where you able to resolve this? I am currently in a similar situation. I have booked a Iberian flight to travel to my home country Nigeria from London through Madrid. I have a permanent residency (ILR) to remain in the UK . I am not sure if I need a transit visa for my 2 hr stop over in Madrid. Help needed please

An Airport Transit visa is not required if resident in: Andorra, Canada, European Union, Japan, Monaco, San Marino, Switzerland, USA, Holders of Diplomatic and Service passports.
The Airport Transit visa will only allow the holder into the International Lounge and will not permit the passenger entry into Spain.

Iberian airlines use timatic

timatic says.
TWOV (Transit Without Visa):
Visa required, except for Nationals of Nigeria, holding onward
tickets in transit For details, click https://www.timaticweb.com/cgi-bin/tim_ ... user=GFB2C

*Note: TWOV is not possible
when arriving from a non-Schengen Member State AND departing
to a Schengen Member State For details, click https://www.timaticweb.com/cgi-bin/tim_ ... user=GFB2C
- applicable to holders of a Residence Permit issued by
United Kingdom.
