staying the in Uk with husband?

Post by Alou » Tue Jun 10, 2014 12:18 am

Hello

I have the british Citizinship since I was born . My father worked in the UK for 10 years but moved to germany. I was born in germany but stil have the british Citizinship. My husband is mexican. Maybe he will be able to get a german citizinship soon.

I lived in the UK for 1 year when I was a child but thats all. I know I can stay in the UK if I find a work but how about my husband? Can he stay in the UK as long he finds a work? How will be the procedure for him and for me? How will be the migration for us?

Thank you very much

Hi

If your husband becomes a geman citizen he will have the right to free movement. However for travelling as your husband he should apply for an eea family permit to the UK, which lasts 6 months and then a residence permit once here

https://www.gov.uk/family-permit

https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-a-uk-residence-card
Flr(fp) application.

Applied - 29/07-14
HO Received - 31/07/14
Biometrics done - 12/08/14
Decision - Granted - 10/10/2014

Remember Germany does not allow dual citizenship. It does though for EU citizenships but I don't know if thats automatic but might be wise to check.

It's ok if the other citizenship is the one of another EU country or Switzerland.

Yeah I said above, just that I was remembering a good friend of mine who married a Brit born in Germany to Forces parents, had a devil of time being recognised as British and to get a UK passport, that was 2004 though....

Thank you for you replies.

I have the uk passport. Its like my ID in germany anyway. Do I need to get ID from UK or need to register myself? Since I only have the passport. Lets say we move to the UK before he gets his german citizinship. Will he allow to stay as well or maybe after he has worked a few years will he be able to get the UK citizinship? Do my husband and me need to make test before we move to the uk?
