17 year old visa without parental consent

Post by smalldog » Thu Jun 12, 2014 4:59 pm

Hi. I'm hoping someone knowledgeable can advise on this situation.

It's about a 17-year-old who has a place at a very good UK university. She comes from a dysfunctional family and her father will (begrudgingly) allow her to go to university but the mother will never agree. The problem is that, being 17, the requirements for the student visa include submitting a letter signed by both parents give their permission to travel and live in the UK independently, and it is not looking possible to get the mother's signature.

I'm wondering if there is any way of obtaining the visa without the mother's permission. Having to wait until she is 18 would mean another year living in a situation that is frankly very bad for her mental health. This girl is the national of a low-risk country and should have no problems applying for the visa except for this issue.

If I am not wrong if he is applying for the University he is applying as a Tier 4 general not on the child route. So this rules do not apply to her

Hi, thanks for your response. Yes, she will be applying for a tier 4 general visa, not a child visa, but the guidance document for the general visa still states that parental consent is required for applicants under 18.

Yes I have checked and found it states she will require consent letter from parent(s) or legal guardian(s). Unless she can made both of them to agree to sign the letter or if the father has the sole responsibility he can sign it alone there is no other way actually.
