Surrender of Indian Passport | Travel | Grace Period Lapse

Post by orange01 » Fri Jun 13, 2014 9:19 am

Hello Guys,

I believe I may end up in bit of a trouble..

I have acquired British Citizenship on 25-May-2014. I have not yet applied for British passport as I am travelling to India next week for 6 weeks and won’t be back in the UK until 26-July 2013.

For this visit I will be travelling on my Indian Passport. I understand that Indian High Commission has 3 months grace period to surrender the Indian passport after acquiring British Citizenship.

I would have used more than 2 months of grace period after I returned back to the UK. I believe when I apply for British Passport (after 26-July-2013) it will take another 4-5 weeks, so essentially when I surrender my Indian passport I would have kept my Indian passport for more than 3 months after acquiring British Citizenship.

Is this going to be an issue? Am I going to get penalised for keeping my Indian passport over 3 months?

I am really worried, please advise.

Thanks

I dont think this will be an issue. You have a 3 month grace period to travel. not surrender. however, do not delay it too long
