Do I need to tell UKBA if I renew my passport?

Post by Viralts » Wed Mar 26, 2014 12:56 pm

Hi

I am currently on a Tier 2 Genera visa with BRP.

My BRP expires in August 2014

I have recently applied to renew the passport I used when I applied for the original BRP 3 years ago and will be getting a new one shortly.

When i get my new passport in April - do i need to tell the UKBA? How do i tell them if i do?

Will it be an issue if I don't and then apply for an extension in August?

You need to inform your sponsor when your passport details change.
You also need to fill in ukba change of circumstances form and and send it off to ukba. They may update their system or even issue a new brp as the case may be.
if you don't, well you could update us after you apply for extension.
Read teir 2 guidance on ukba website, conditions of your stay retc are clearly spelt out. The rules keep changing so you've find out the latest info!

Hi Viralts,

I am in a similar situation as yours and was wondering if you did inform the UKBA of the re-issue. If you did, did they re-issue the BRP or you still have the original BRP?
Would appreciate your help on this. Thanks.

Cheers,
Ashish.

Hi Ashish,
When I renewed my passport, I just informed my employer. When I applied for visa extension with the new passport, no questions were asked.

Best to inform UKBA and the police (OVRO office) as well. I did not and I was recently reprimanded by the police for that, even though I was told by the earlier I don't have to. This takes little effort, so always play it safe.

Thanks. I saw on page 8 of this Change of Circumstances form:
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... _04-14.pdf
that it mentions change of passport should be informed. I believe this would not involve getting a new BRP issued, just a details update, is it correct?
If so, I think better to play it safe and inform them specially when planning to apply for ILR in future.

Can someone please advice if change of Passport Details (E.g. new passport number) needs a Change of Circumstances form?

As per the form the below scenarios apply, will change of passport number be considered change of personal details?

What changes in circumstances does the UK Border Agency need to be
informed of?
The applicant must inform the UK Border Agency of any changes to the following for
either himself/herself or his/her dependants:
• personal details;
• criminal convictions;
• contact details;
• representative details;
• dependants’ details.
The applicant may also use this form to notify the UK Border Agency of any other information that he/she thinks that we should know
