referee should be born uk citizen?

My referee is not a born uk citizen, he got this citizenship couple of years ago.. Can he eligible for the referee?

Both my referees were naturalised.

I tried to find a native Brit, but... some of my pals had no valid passports (one had an Irish one current, and a British one expired), one has done time in jail for drunk driving... so I gave up an use a naturalised former colleague. I got my approval OK.
