English requirement for dependent for ILR

Post by riddhi14 » Tue Jul 15, 2014 11:36 am

Hi All,

I shall be applying for my ILR in first week of August,2014. I had proved my qualification being on Points calculator and as such was given 10 points for english language.
Now my wife, who is on dependent visa from the 1st day, I came to UK, has a B.com degree from Delhi university which qualification is on the Points calculator. So, does she need to take any English test or her original degree certificate shall be submitted, while applying for ILR.

An urgent advice from seniors and the moderator is requested.

Hi Ridhi,

I think this particular query has been responded to almost a hundred times by various members. A simple search would have yielded you the answer you are looking for.

The requirement is elaborated here: https://www.gov.uk/english-language

Good luck!

Degrees taught or researched in English

You’ll need to prove your degree was both:

taught or researched in English
confirmed by UK NARIC as the equivalent of a bachelor’s, master’s or PhD degree in the UK

You’ll need to provide your original degree certificate and 1 of the following:

a printout from the points-based calculator with the equivalent level of your degree and the level of English
an original letter or certificate from UK NARIC confirming the equivalent level of your degree, plus an official letter from your university with your name and degree confirming that your degree was taught in English
an original and official certificate from your university confirming the degree was taught or researched in a majority English-speaking country (except Canada)

Respected Newbie,

Thanks for the guidance and clarifications.

I had posted it since I was confused as to whether the conditions mentioned are applicable only to the principle applicant or to both i.e. principle applicant as well as dependent.

Yes she has qualification which is on Points calculator awarding her 10 points for English proficiency as well as original degree certificate with her.

Thanks for saving us from the troubles of taking the English tests.

Regards,

The requirements remain the same irrespective of whether it the applicant or the dependent.

The PBS ought to give 20 points or above for the qualification and 10 points for the English level - for it to qualify.

Other Mandatory thingy under Knowledge of Lang is

recognised standard of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or PhD in the United
Kingdom and (i) UK NARIC has confirmed that the qualification was taught or

UK or a majority English speaking country other than Canada;

OR
