HSMP: Family of dependent spouse (Important)

Post by Sher » Tue Nov 02, 2004 8:09 pm

Were I to be in the UK as the 'primary' HSMP applicant and my spouse as a 'dependent' ..... can my spouse's parents ( aged 66 and 58 ) be brought in too
(assuming that both of us have jobs and a healthy bank balance, without relying on public funds for them)

One more 'think aloud' hypothetical situation .....

As a corollary to the above, can one enter UK as a dependent HSMP spouse ..... get a job ..... and then, apply to the HSMP programme on one's own ?!
( The underlying reason once again remains: getting parents to the UK )

If you are a British national (after 4 years HSMP and 1 year ILR) then you can apply to bring them, if they are over 65 and you can prove they depend economically on you.

There are exceptional cases were that can happend before but you will need to show that for humanitarian reasons they should come.

Please search the legislation on the home office web site.

Your spouse can come to the UK on the dependent visa and take up work, and also apply for HSMP on her own right. However, her parents may not automatically be regarded as her dependents.
