I tried to contact you via a PM but can't figure out how to do it. I have a tax question. Any help would be greatly appreciated.adelmurray wrote:of course i understand , if you still want me to explain it to you no probs you can pm me with the figures and i will do my best , but it looks like you are doing a good job so far in sorting out the tax issues , and of course showing the tax office that u r forthcoming is a good idea since you have an overpayment of tax for a certain year they can deduct that from whatever year there is an underpayment if any .
ok i am assuming you are a single person so :
if you earn up to € 630 per week you pay tax at 20% only and anything over that you would pay 41% on it .
so let's assume you earn € 500 per week x 20% = €100 PAYE tax liablility per week , then you look at your tax credits again i am assuming you a single person so may be about : €330 per year , that is about €63 per week .
now you take that € 100 tax liability - € 63 your tax credit for the week = € 37 tax to be paid to the taxman
if i were you i would have applied for citizenship at the same time , because people on this forum are reporting to have received a decision on their citizenship applications from 3 months to a year , but the department have a standard turnaround of 6 months , it all depends on your case , (if no criminal records or adverse attention to Garda and no court appearance for whatever reason other than family law ) you should get a decision within the six months time frame and may be even less than that .
as for your citizenship of your own home country i can understand you don't want to loose it , but just to clarify the Irish Government does not ask you to denounce your own citizenship , you can have a dual citizenship . unless the problem lies with your own country's legislations. even with that alot of people here come from countries where their Governments do not allow for a dual citizenship , but they still applied for irish ones and are ok , ( i don't know how that works but you can ask in here by mentioning your country of origin and people would be more that happy to help and advise you) .
Good Luck with your stamp4 because you will need it before you apply for Citizenship , and Good luck with your future Citizenship application when you decide to go for it .
no it is not too late to get that refunded , a cheque should have been issued automatically and attached to the P21 Balancing Statements , however may be the procedure have changed as it has been years since i dealt with the Tax Office in issues like this . but the procedure is still the same in the relation to how far back you can go to claim overpaid taxes , which is 4 years .southernboy wrote:NO, I have my P21 from Revenue, the only problem I am having is getting my card. Last week I rang my immigration officer and my card had not yet arrived. She instructed me to wait until this week. This week I rang and she would only be in her office today...friday is our busiest day so I could not go today so I am going to try again monday...but again I have my P21 from Revenue so there shouldn't be any problems.
I am logged in but it tells me I don't have permission to view Private Messages!?!?!?
My question is...
I ordered all of my P21's from the last four years. The last two years, I have paid more taxes than I should have and was entitled to a refund...which I never claimed. My question is, Is it too late to claim these refunds and if not, how do I go about doing it? I am owed over 1,000 Euro in over paid taxes. Thanks for the help.
