Visa options for bringing parents

Post by vidsrao » Thu Aug 07, 2014 12:05 pm

Hi There,

We are planning to bring mother in law to UK as our father in law passed away recently. My mother in law has two sons , one settled in USA and another in UK. Initially plan is that she will be 6 months in USA and another 6 months in UK. From long term perspective what other options to we have? Here are some queries I have.

1. Is there a long stay visa available?
2. Can she be made dependent?
3. Can she apply visa outside INDIA , where she is currently a resident.

Please help and share your thoughts on immigration for elderly people?

Thanks,
Vids

1. No.
2. Theoretically yes
3. Not normally, but under extreme compassionate circumstances possible.

But....

Visa application cost is £1906, and we've only seen one granted on here since the rules were tightened.

You have to prove that they cannot look after themselves, and that there is no local care you can engage to do that.

I believe US immigration law permits chain migration, UK doesn't so it seems logical to go that way....
