Self Employment

Post by samira_uk » Mon Aug 04, 2014 2:45 pm

Hi,

I could not find answer to my question in the rules:
to be rely on the self employment income, should the spouse be self-employed for the whole last financial year? I mean what happened, if someone becomes self employed in Dec 2013 and then file the tax return in April 2014? He can use the income as it happened during the last full financial year or he has to wait to being self employed for the whole financial year and in this case he apply only after April 2015?

Thanks

You need to have been self employed for a full financial year to sponsor your spouse to apply, i.e 2013-2014.

The company's full financial year.

Most company's align to the UK's tax year though.

But is very unfair. if someone becomes self employed for example in June 2014. He has to wait until April 2016 to sponsor his spouse?

Full financial year if you started work in June 2014 then do the full year and file your tax returns in June 2015... You have up until January to pay the tax balance... Need more info pm
