Voluntary return advice

Post by syk » Tue Aug 14, 2007 5:21 pm

I am giving up the wait and am applying for the voluntary return programme (AVRIM, not the VAARP).

The IOM informed me that I would only get support with the travel tickets. I explained that over the past 9 years that I have been here, I had accumulated lots of 'personnally-valuable' goods that I must take with me. But there is no provision for shipping assistance.
Is there an existing thread on this topic, anyone familiar with this area, please help

Why don't you sell all your valuables to pay for your ticket?
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

Probably not a sensible option - and "personally valuable" items aren't necessarily valuable in monetary terms anyway.

Just out of interest, what exactly have you been waiting for? Sorry it didn't work out.

As for your valuables, I suppose the only ooption would be to have them shipped commercially. What sort of weight are we talking, and where to?
The Refused are coming day-by-day nearer to freedom.

The items are not going to yield any significant amount of money. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the fact that they can cover for the travel. Regarding the goods, I will surely leave the beds, mattresses, tables and chairs. However, I am off to West Africa, and I would like to take the electricals with me as well as books which makes it quite heavy.
I applied for ILR in June 05 having come on a workpermit in 98, but unable to renew/extend it in 2002.
