It took 2 months and 2 weeks to receive letter.
I've not received invitation letter until 2 weeks after the date on approval letter. So I made an enquiry. The HO said they had not sent off becuase of some problem in printing service. I think it is rediculous. The thing is I am moving home very soon as my landlord is going to sell his house.

lol no dude, you're not a british citizen till you do the whole oath/affirmation thing. it's an annoying formality but till you do it, you can't apply for a passport.

The Oath of Allegiance and the Pledge thing as you respectless describe them are key to the UK Citizenship, if you don't agree with being loyal to The Queen, the Heir of the Throne, all Her Succesors and respecting and upholding UK laws and freedoms, you'd better not become British Citizen!

Those are the sort o people who only want a British Passport for personal convineance and not becasue they really want to embrace British Citizenship as a whole.

Now it's 3 weeks on after approval letter was received. I phoned again HO. Someone answered that they have sent letter since last week, assuring I should receive it in a few days.

My question is What kind of letter it is? Is that inviation letter? Previously I though that inviation letter will come from local authority. Can someone clarify the steps after receiving approval letter, please.

The follwings are right?

1. Invitation letter coming from Home office directly to my address? or Invitation letter from local council after it receive a message from Home Office?
2. phone local council for ceremony date.
3. ceremony takes place.
4. get the certificate.
5. apply passport.

Thank you.

Steve, it all depend on info in the letter from HO, in some cases they are asking to contact local council, or you would have to wait till council contact you.
In my case it was a long procedure:
1. Letter from HO confirming approval of my application and stating that I should wait for an invitation from local council.
2. Letter from council asking to ring them and arrange ceremony date.
3.After many phone calls and living messages on council answer machine was given first available date in 2 month time for a ceremony, then they check for space in surrounding area and I had arranged my ceremony month earlier. They will ask how many quest will come with you and would you like to swear, or affirm the oath.
4. Receiving invitation and all info regarding ceremony for agreed date.
5.Attempting ceremony, certificate given to you within ceremony.
6.You can apply for passport same day after ceremony, if you have passport application form filled in and passport photo sighed.
Good luck!

Delay...

Post by agganesh » Fri Sep 28, 2007 11:44 am

I have applied for nationality first week of Feb this year, got the confirmation letter and the money has been taken out but still no answer from the HO. I called them couple of times but same answer (in progress...). I know someone else also having problem like me in this forum, waiting since last October. Has he got it?

I applied end of november....still waiting. Know another couple of guys with the same problem. I am calling BIA every week answer always the same:" waiting for character enquiries to come back". When asked for how long it could take they saying" that there is no time limit for BC applications. My MP is involved as well, he wrote them with the same result. So....just sit and wait? :(

Sorry to hear that. But hope you will be Ok finally.

I thought previously the naturalization is just a formalizing process. But in your case, there has been delayed considerably.

What do you think why it happens? because of your ethnic origin? or your appearance ? or previous history or minor offences? If you tell us a bit more, it would be helpful to all members.

thanks

Steve
the only reason I could think about was that I was fined £60 by Magistrates Court for speeding offence in April and I informed BIA about it as soon as I had Court decision -that's all. But anyway I think that 11 months is more than enough to receive a reply form whatever enquiries they are doing: MI5,MI6, CIA, UN,UNICEF whatever. So I think my file just hanging in some dusty shelf because they busy with something else.

Alex

hi Alex

as far as I know ( according to my friends), speed fine is not in CRB check(I might be wrong). Maybe, home office also considers that issue, not sure.

One thing I noticed that you did applied end of November. If so, no point to inform about your speed offence in April. I think April what you mean is April 2007 and November is November 2006. But at the time of your application, if your criminal offence was outstanding, that would be a strong factor leading to a delay, I think logically. Sorry I just guessing, not expert in this field.

A friend of mine was sucessful with 3 points of speed. (taking 2 and half months). My application took nealy 3 months. We were on married couple joint applications. But nearly 1 month delay to receive invitation letter after approval. Maybe due to internal mail problem in thier office. Invitation letter dated 8 august , and it was 30 August when I received it. Approval letter dated 1 August, I received it on 3 august.

[hi Steve

Yes that offence was outstanding on the moment of my application(Nov2006) because I've got an EU driving licence not UK one and case went through the court system - with the same result though, and as soon as I had a court decision(April 2007) I informed nationality team. However I couldn't see how it could affect my application because speeding is not the reason for refusal anyway.
The most irritating thing is that when contacting the nationality team they not giving the exact information about which checks they've done, when, which are outstanding to date, whether they tried to repeat them if somebody not answering etc. This lack of transparency makes me to suspect that they simply not doing anything at all until some senior manager will order them to look again at dusty shelf of long outstanding cases.

Yours
Alex

I'm nearing my 6 months wait in just 2 days and they've been doing checks since then, said it will take another couple of months.. It's ridicolous. What I dont get is that i've pretty much been in Europe since I was around 4 years old and they should have access to all my passpoorts and history, yet its still taking this long...

hope it works out for ya, good luck
