Had a decision... But what is it?!

Post by catbusstop » Thu Sep 11, 2014 6:39 pm

After months of waiting for my wife's settlement visa, today we have been told that a decision has been made and the documents and passport are being returned. The email reads:

A decision has been made on your UK visa application. Your application will be despatched shortly from the visa processing centre in Sheffield, UK.

Your passport will be despatched from the Sheffield Office and will be delivered by UPS. Your UPS tracking number is xxxxxxxxxxxx and a signature is required in order to complete delivery. You may track your UPS shipment at UPS.com

Does this mean the visa has been granted or what? I'd assume that they'd tell us if something was wrong and keep the documents until any appeal process has finished.... Is there anyway I can find out for certain?

Thanks

The short answer is patience. You'll know in a few days.

In any case - all documents are returned as not all refusals result in an appeal. Take a visitor visa - there are virtually no appeal rights there - but there is a human rights route - so there might be an appeal or there might not.

People also might choose not to appeal if the decision is actually correct. On a spouse visa we see decisions rejecting on financial grounds that are perfectly correct decisions and people have to re-apply with the right documentation.

We applied for this visa in March - are you saying there's a chance we'll have to go through all of this again if they don't like part of our documents we submitted???? :S

Potentially yes - but it depends entirely on the refusal reasons - if you are refused at all.

The emails are deliberately vague.

Don't worry about any of it until the passport is in your hands.
