There is a £250 limit on postal orders, so take £175 x 3 and write GBRLxxx/ name on back of PO
If applying in person, why not just carry exact cash - saves you £37.5 in Po fees!
Finally, while taking appointment I have mentioned all three of us would be coming to the consulate but it seems that I would be going alone. Is this ok or will they object because my wife and son are not coming?
You can submit for your family - no problems with that - but take all originals with you.

Hi Satellite, satellite wrote:Yes, a family member just applied recently. He already had a Surrender certificate so when he went to the VFS centre with his birth certificate for the OCI, they never took it. They looked at it, but said it wasn't necessary to submit with the other original documents (such as his original marriage certificate and original surrender certificate) .So I'm 99% sure you don't need it. It's worth going to apply anyway without it, the Surrender certificate alone is proof enough that you were an Indian citizen.
Many Thanks Satellite, satellite wrote:Let me know how it goes. Because my family members didn't need their birth certificates so you should be ok. And if they do reject you in the VFS office, you won't have lost any money anyway because you only pay them after they accept your application.
Hi Kay,indianinuk23 wrote:Hello everyone
I am going to apply for OCI in a few days. Need some help. I do not have my birth certificate with me. But I do have a School leaving certificate. However, it is laminated?
To RKUK:
Did you manage to submit your OCI application without birth certificate?
What documents did you submit?
When you submit OCI application along with the mandatory surrender certificate in originak, do you get back the Indian passports with a Cancelled stamp?
Your responses would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Kay

I will update.
Kind regards
If you have surrendered your Indian passport and have a "surrender certificate" you don't need any other documents (e.g. domicile certificate, school leaving certificate, etc) to prove Indian origin. This has been clarified by the High Commission, VFS, as well as several people on this forum (I can speak from personal experience as well). Don't worry, the surrender certificate is enough.deep82mca wrote:First sorry if i am posting duplicate query unfortunately couldn't find a complete list of documents required for OCI. I am going to submit my OCI application in few days and plan to submit following documents:
Application form
Printed & Signed Declaration form
2 Photos
copy of British Passport
copy of Naturalization Certificate
Surrender certificate
However I do not have any of "Other Necessary documents" mentioned on VFS website :
Domicile certificate
Original Birth Certificate
School Leaving Certificate
Agriculture land
Are these mandatory? I am struggling to arrange as have already surrender my passport and can't travel to India to bribe officials. I do not understand logic behind these "Other Necessary documents".
Please advice. thank you for your help in advance.
Best Regards
