Posting behalf of a friend in india

Her uk work permit tier 2 ict long term staff migrant visa expire after 3 years on 31/12/14 . She has to travel to UK for one year and hence has to extend the work visa.
She has been told by the company that she has to be in UK 4 weeks prior to expire is that true ?

She wanted to extend it from india as wanted to travel after christmas.

Any help would be appreciated.

She must renew from within the UK. If she attempts to renew fro outside the UK, she will be applying for entry clearance. There is a requirement of not having had Tier 2 leave for 12 months prior to an entry clearance application.
