Applying UK Passport for Baby - IPS Online Passport

Post by techguy007 » Wed May 22, 2013 4:14 pm

Dear All,

Me and my partner both has ILR and our baby was born after we were granted ILR.

1) So i assume the baby can apply for British Passport straight away.
2) Can i use the IPS Online passport service or need to fill the MN1 form and send the related documents?

Please advise

Thanks you very much in advance

As the child was born in the UK (I assume) and you were settled (had ILR) when the child was born your child is a British Citizen. You can apply for a passport now. The IPS online system will just populate form with the details you input and send it to you in the post, I believe it can be used for new applications. You can then use the post office check and send service.

You dont need to apply for MN1. You can apply directly for the passport.
I would suggest that you use the paper form for passport because the online application will be printed out and sent to you in the post for you to sign and attach docs which will take longer - at least this is how i was a couple of month ago.

Hi

Thanks for the quick response.

So if use the Passport service they will send me the forms and I still need to go to the post office for the checking service? Or can I fill the form by myself or through a solicitor and post them back?

BTW what do you mean by I dont need the MN1 form. If so how should apply directly for the british passport?
If MN1 is not needed what paper form should i use

Thanks

You do not need to use the post office check and send service but it's perhaps advisable and safe for documents. The child's birth certificate and your ILR visa showing that you were settled when the child was born and any other documents as per http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg ... 184487.pdf pages 14-15 which you should read.

Was the child born in the UK?

MN1 is application form for British citizenship. It is not required if the child was born in the UK after one of his parents had ILR. You just need to pick up a "passport application form" from the post office (it's free).

Hi All,

In the British PP form in section 4 when applying for kids PP it states
"if both parents were born abroad we will also need the full name, town, country, date of birth, and date date of marriage of your grandparents(or details of your parents claim to British nationality).

what does this mean and what do I need to fill in.
please advise..

Many Thanks

Has anybody got any idea whether we need to provide grandparents birth and marriage details if parents born outside UK ?

Hi, I just applied mine for my newborn son and got it back within 2.5wks. I just write down the names, DOB, place of birth and marriage date for both set of grandparents in a separate piece of paper and in section 8 just state please refer separate paper for details. Not sure why it's needed but no harm in providing as well (none us nor the grandparents are born in uk or hold uk citizenship)

Hope this help
