Naturalisation application fee increases and refunds:

Hi all,

Two quick questions:

1) Can anyone recall say the last 3-4 naturalisation fee increases along with their approximate dates (say months and years)?

Also, just to clarify the fee is a fee for application consideration and not "naturalisation granting fee"? The fee is not refunded if an application is refused?

2) It might sound like a strange question but it came up when I've read this in the Guide AN:

"3.19 You must say whether you have been involved in anything which might indicate
that you are not of good character. You must give information about any of these
activities no matter how long ago it was. Checks will be made in all cases and your
application may fail and your fee will not be fully refunded if you make an untruthful
declaration. ..."

Is failed (fully genuine) application fee fully refunded then?

1. See the fees on page 12.

2. It seems that the general rule is you lose your fee. There are a couple of exceptions though.

If the applicant and/or any child included in the application has an automatic claim to British citizenship we should write to say so and explain that naturalisation and/or registration is not necessary and make the appropriate refund of fee

If the applicant is entitled to registration as a British citizen, we should write and say so and explain, if appropriate, that a refund of the excess fee will be made.

I think (not too sure) that if you make an invalid application (missing your name or date of birth etc) they will not process it at all and you won't be charged.

Big thanks for this table. It is very useful, it essentially shows that Naturalisation app fee goes up by £20-30 every new tax year.

Regarding fee refund: you have quoted the cases when application was not necessary. It would be bizarre if a to a degree fraudulent application would get a partial refund but this seems to be what the quote I have pasted is saying.

Anyone knows whether this is a consideration or success fee?
