Naturalisation Citizenship ceremony problem

Post by salman83 » Sun Oct 19, 2014 5:10 am

Hi,

My wife applied for naturalisation on 15th July. So far she hadn't received any approval letter.

My wife has to go abroad to meet her parents.

I know that she can travel without any restrictions but if her approval letter comes during her absence. Can she tell the council (through which she applied for) that her ceremonial date should be after her arrival.

Regards.

I believe she has to have ceremony within 3 months from receiving approval letter otherwise it will become invalid.
I am sometimes wrong.

But she would have to BOOK the ceremony within 2/3 weeks of receiving the letter.

The OP (the husband) should be able to book the ceremony on his wife's behalf for some future date as long as he has the letter with the reference number on it.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

The problem is that I need to go with my wife. But our stay abroad will be only for 3 weeks.

Is it possible can i inform the council in advance that we are not available in the country during that period, so that they do not put any date for ceremony during that period.

Regards.

Each council does it's own thing so you'd have to phone them and ask.

Alternatively, if you trust someone else with your mail you can simply redirect your mail to them and they can call the council for you. The envelope is really easy to spot, just a plain brown envelope. I could read that my citizenship was accepted through the window in the envelope.

If you are planning only for three weeks than it shouldn't be any problem you can book your ceremony from overseas over the phone.

I would not worry about the three weeks deadline. I doubt any council will be so strict on this.
