£18,6000 financial requirement advice

Post by SophieD » Mon Oct 27, 2014 9:46 am

My partner who lives in the U.S wants to move to the UK to be with me. I understand I have to earn £18,600 per annum (but have been employed for 6 months)

I have two jobs, my main day job, I have been employed for 3 years and I earn £9,000 from it per annum. My second job I am due to start, this is working for home, I earn £10,000. Which category do we apply under? The government website can be pretty confusing.

Also, my second job will be paying my wages through PayPal, what can I do about this situation, just transfer it to my bank each month? I'm thinking about the proof of pay etc when we actually apply.

In order to get the advice that you seek, you need to define your so-called jobs. Are they employment or self-employment? Getting paid via Paypal seems to suggest that the task is not employment (where your employer deducts tax and NIC from your salary).

Two things. Are the jobs salaried or self-employed - thinking more about the second job here. The Paypal thing might raise a few UKVI eyebrows, will you be provided with payslips (legal requirement) or is it paid gross?

Also you say 'partner' - are you intending to marry?

Yes we want to marry eventually.

One job I get my taxes deducted automatically, the other I have to pay them myself.

Apart from the issue of employed/self-employed earnings, your partner won't qualify for an Unmarried Partner Visa unless you have been living together in a relationship 'akin to marriage' for a minimum of 2 years. The fact that you say you wan't to marry 'eventually' suggests that a Fiance Visa won't be appropriate either as there has to be evidence of the intention to marry within 6 months of arrival.

No, because your partner isn't 'family'. If you don't intend to marry within 6 months of arrival he won't qualify as your fiance either.
Bear in mind you would have to submit evidence of the wedding booking, venue etc.

Yes, I'm sure I can plan that to happen in the UK, within the six months.

Thank you!

In the advice regarding the Fiance option, I'm assuming you've met your partner in person.
You do need advice on your self-employed earnings as you'll need HMRC records of self-assessment accounts before you can apply if you are including these.

Yes, we have met in person. I have saved flight tickets and information. What else would they need to see?

Thanks for all of your help.

Evidence of how you keep in touch while you're apart.

Skype, Facebook and some letters.

Okay, not a problem.

Thank you!
