British naturalization doubts, pls help

Post by coochiefoo98 » Tue Oct 28, 2014 5:33 pm

Hi,

I last year I became an EU citizen through my father.
I have returned to the UK this year to live and work, previously did my university here.
I am aware if you are an EEA member you have to wait 6 years to apply for British naturalization.
My question is as I am an EEA member and married to an British citizen, do I have to wait 5 or 6 years?
Also are documents, such as bills and bank statements accepted to prove I have been here during 5/6 years?
Would just like to double check, as did some research and it said its not accepted.

Thanks for all the help to whom ever answers and makes this clear :)

If you are married to BC you need to have been resident in the UK for 3 years and hold ILR.
I am sometimes wrong.

I am confused on the part of ILR, since I am an EU citizen I can stay here due to the freedom of movement.
So do I just have to wait three years from what you are saying?

Please read below:
2. If your spouse is a British citizen
If you’re married to, or the civil partner of, a British citizen, you can apply for citizenship if:

you’re 18 or over
you’re of sound mind
you’re of good character
you’ve met the knowledge of English and life in the UK requirements
you’ve been granted indefinite leave to stay in the UK (or permanent residence if you’re an EEA national) - this means there’s no specific date that you have to leave
Unless your spouse or civil partner works abroad either for the UK government or for an organisation closely linked to government, you must usually also have:

lived in the UK for at least the 3 years before your application is received
spent no more than 270 days outside the UK in those 3 years
spent no more than 90 days outside the UK in the last 12 months
not broken any immigration laws while in the UK
Please click here for more information on gov uk site.

Hope this clears you, seniors can further guide you.
Being British is a state of mind.
