Can I travel outside UK while Tier2 visa is curtailed?

Hi,

My Tier 2 Visa expires in 2016 but my job contract ends 31 December 2014 so I my company will notify the change to the UKBA in early January and they will curtail my visa. I'm planning to go to Italy on 7 January 2015 for a week and come back to the UK. Then, go to Spain for 2 months and come back to the UK to pick up my belongings and return home around April.. BUT

Will it be a problem for me to leave and enter the UK twice while my visa is being curtailed (and me not knowing when exactly the new expiry date will be?)?

The real problem might be that you are not returning for the purposes of your visa. They may be reluctant to admit you as a visitor, thinking you might overstay. You can't lie to the ECO and it will be up to their discretion as to whether or not to admit you.

To avoid any problems I'll stay in the UK until the date my visa is curtailed to (I'm assuming it will be around March..). I'd like to use this time to do a 'short course' (non degree, only 2 hours/week) for 11 weeks starting in January 2015, do you think I am allowed to do that? I would enroll in December before my Tier 2 visa is curtailed so want to make sure it won't be a problem with the college or the UKBA?

I've been looking on the Gov.uk website but can't find clear guidance about what I could/couldn't do during the curtailment period (in fact from day my contract expires and my company reports it). For example, am I allowed to volunteer (non paid) for a charity just a couple of hours per week?

Under curtailment, the rules become a bit unclear.

While employed, you are allowed to take up studies and some volunteer work, as long as these activities do not infringe on your Tier 2 employment. Under curtailment, it is sort of anyone's guess...

Your leave lapses once your visa is curtailed and you leave the UK. You cannot return on a curtailed visa and even if you have not yet been notified of the curtailment once your sponsor notifies UKVI that your employment ended this will go on the system and you are likely to be denied entry.

Tier 2 migrants are allowed to study, see para 197 of the guidance. This condition continues during the curtailment period.
