Post by purnendu100 » Tue Sep 04, 2007 9:05 am

Hi,
My Brother lived in UK for last 4 years. And now he willing to bring me there with a dependent visa. I am currently working here in INDIA.
Is it possible for me to go there with a dependent visa?
Please Help.

.

I don't think that siblings are eligible as dependents. Minor children and spouses, yes ...

Generally,

A person who is the legal guardian of a minor could sponsor a dependent.

If a dependent has some special needs/severe disability, then they do not necessarily have to be a minor.

In your case,

Your brother would have to be your declared legal guardian and you would have to be under 18 years of age. He would have to prove that he can support you. You would not be allowed to work under such an arrangement.

Before I give the answer;
1. what is your age, and what are you doing?
2. what is your brother's age, and what is he doing? What is his status in the UK?
3. any other family members....parents, siblings, etc....if so, where are they?

My Age is 25
Brother's Age is 27. He is with work permit there
My parents live here in INDIA.
If I am not eligible for this visa type then should I apply for a WHM visa?

OK. The UK does not generally provide any visas for family members other than children under 18, spouses/partners, and elderly parents who are dependent on the person in the UK. People on visas, however, can only bring partners and children under 18.

Even British citizens can't sponsor siblings - there isn't a rule for that in British immigration policy (only exceptional cases). So you won't qualify and your brother cannot help you.

I suggest you look at the WHM visa in that case, or look for a employer to sponsor you for a work permit or apply for HSMP, or a student visa. These are your only options.
