Need assistance with locating a residence permit and/or citizenship application for relative who resided in Germany between years of 1965 - 1985 but may also have been awarded residency or citizenship at a later date. Would appreciate assistance with directions on how and where to obtain copies of these documents.

I don't know whether anybody apart from the person themselves can obtain copies.

Residence permits are under local jurisdiction - you'd need to know where in Germany that person lived and contact the local Ausländerbehörde. Whether they keep documents from that long ago, how long it would take to dig through decades-old pre digital archives and whether they are even willing/able to do this for a relative (privacy laws) is anybody's guess.

If that person was working in Germany, then you might get some information from the German pension department:

Is that person still alive?

If not, how close of a relative is the person now looking for this information?

If a address, town, city is known the local resident registration office (Einwohnermeldeamt) should have at least the status of the citizenship at that time.
