ILR period: switching from main applicant (T2G) to dependent

Post by 3lqrs » Mon Dec 29, 2014 10:35 am

I'm on Tier 2 (General) for 2 years, my wife is on dependent visa. She can apply for Tier 2 General herself as a main applicant. Will these 2 years count for ILR "continuous period" for me and my wife if I'll switch to dependent visa? It's interesting for me because she has much more stable job and I could work as a contractor (and I cannot right now because I'm bound to my sponsor).

Any other consequences of this?

You wife may apply for a Tier 2 (General) visa from her home country.
Subsequently, you may switch to being her dependant in the UK.

However, both qualifying periods of 5-years for ILR will be reset.
