Hi I have not applied for an EEA 2 REsidence Card as yet. I'm currently on a tier 4 visa. But I've been issued a multiple entry Schengen visa on a couple of occasions. This usually depended on:
-Having travel insurance that extended beyond the period of proposed travel (so having travel insurance that was upto 6 months or a year)
-Having travel plans that extended beyond the requested country visit. So for example if you're applying for a trip to Germany, indicate that you have plans to travel else where too-e.g. Spain or Italy-you can print a proposed itinerary from Expedia. When you go to the visa office point out that you have further travel plans in the coming months.
-Some companies may be able to sponsor longer schengen visas (upto 1 year)? Worth checking out if your place of work could help with this?
I think some countries are more generous that others, but in all I think they don't issue schengen tourist visas for longer than 90 days or slightly over that-which is a bit strange in the case of EEA family members as you don't even need to pay for the visa right?
Hope this helps. Maybe others have some experience to share in this regard.
