work permit for a post graduate with no work experience

Hello
Is it still possiboe for a post graduate(Master's) in Computer Science or Chemical engineering with no work experience to get a work permit.

I remember in 2000 they had relaxed the 2 year work experience law for CS and telecoms, does taht relaxation still hold true?

If the Masters is from the UK then yes, otherwise probably not.

but what you mean is that a masters with zero work experience can get a work permit.

does the company need to prove that it advertised in the newspapers?

Yes rogerroger, they will have to do the 28 days advertising thing and you will have to be the most qualified (esp. against a European candidates). This would be probably only possible if the work is somehow linked to your studies.

John might be a better person to answer this as the rules may be tighter these days.

so i guess since if you say do a masters and a european does a masters in the same subject. he would have a better chance or actually he would be preferred over you.

the only situaton where you would get through is if you have done an exceptional project(industry ??) or if you go back to do an RA at the same UNiversity since they can justify better your credentials.

in summary with zero work ex you can still get a work permit if you have an exceptional degree, i guess the university counts as well, say if you do it from UCL and if some european does the same thing from university of okie finokie, the company can justify that since UCL is higher ranked then okie finokie so we can go for the non european, correct?

Exactly, my Mauritian fiancee has a work permit. She was writing up her PhD at the time, so the only academic qualification she had was a BSc (Hons) from the UK. The fact her PhD matched the engineer skills allowed her to get the job. Also, the engineers job was based in a UK university research centre, so as you say it is possible, but it will be very specialised.

I'm not an expert, I'm just going by this experience.

because i sneaked in with a master's and some uni research experience and obtained the work permit, but that was in 2000, when they had relaxed the rules

i was wondering if the same holds true now

She had the work permit in August and her FLR (IED) process started in September 2004, but they didn't approve it until February this year (however, they gave her permission to work anyway as they were taking so long).

I do know the rules were tightened in October, but I'm not sure in what way and if that would affect you now. I think the change might have been about having a UK degree, but I'm not certain...

Going back to what you said earlier rogerroger, I would think it is almost certainly because it is a job linked to the university. The unis have the process of employing workers from overseas extremely well honed and I guess send in a complete case everytime. They probably don't give a uni work permit app much thought.

Hello! I decided to write you just in case, maybe you are interested in online work while looking for a stable full time job! I was looking for a job permission after a graduation for quit a long time. I worked as a freelancer as a content writer for one international company (and than they offered me to moove to US to work for them). Also I worked with referral programs, it helped me to earn extra buck for different expenses, nowadays they are really developed in different companies, you can search through the internet for them!
