Citizenship application

Post by claudiazimmer » Wed Feb 11, 2015 11:09 pm

Hi,

I am an EU citizen who lived in Ireland in 2007-2012; in that time I was in full employment, and claimed unemployment benefits only for 5 months in 2012. Then I left for the UK, where I'm living now. I'm getting married to an Irish citizen who lives here; we intend to go back to Ireland soon after marriage. As we want to stay there, I would like to apply for Irish citizenship, on the basis of my years spent there and my marriage. Do I meet the requirements? Regarding my employment status: I am self-employed, and would register as such.

Thanks

Claudia

Hi Claudia,

From what I understand you cannot get any social benefits from the government within 3 years prior the date of the application. In your case, that you received benefit, maybe you would not be eligible to apply for the Irish Citizenship. As I said I am not 100% sure. So let's wait for other comments to check if I am right or not... Good luck! :)
