ILR & Citizenship for child born outside UK

Post by donpetuchi » Sun Feb 15, 2015 9:02 pm

I am a Naturalised British Citizen leaving in the UK with my family. I had a son 18 yrs ago in my home country before moving to the UK. He is now here studying on a Student visa. Is there a way I can apply for ILR for him as he was born outside the UK before I gained British Citizenship? I will be most grateful for advice from members.

No there isn't , is the quickest answer to you question.

You should have applied before he turned 18, when you had ILR.

Obie thank you for your reply.
Pls can you advice what we ought to consider then?
I wasn't aware I ought to have applied before he turned 18.
If he's to apply on his own how soon can he apply for ILR?

You son was here on Student visa.

He did not enter or apply as your dependent before he turned 18.

On what basis did you enter the UK?

He's lived in Nigeria with his mum whom I wasn married to and only just came to the UK last Sept on a Student visa applied from Nig by his mum. I came into the UK in 1998 on a Student visa and have since naturalised since 2009. He wasn't included in my ILR application at the time which apparently was an error but he wasn't living with me in the UK.
