Proof of sufficient resources in Germany

Post by zsxue » Wed Sep 19, 2007 3:24 pm

We are going to exercising the rights of free movement in Germany as the parents(beneficiaries )of an EEA child citizen under the Chen ruling. Now the big problem for us is how to prove sufficient resourses. We know the best way is to open a bank account in Germany, but we heard that it is very difficult for non-EEA nationals with a short-schengen visa to open a bank account in Germany .Does anybosy have experience in opening a bank account or proving sufficient resources?

You can open a bank account in the name of the EU child I presume.

There is no requirement that you have a bank account in that country. A bank account which you control in another country should be fine. Or a big wad of cash. Or savings bonds.

Don't get hung up on having the bank account. The requirement is that you have sufficient resources, not that it is in a specific form.

But we think we do need a bank account ,because in our situation we need private health insurance and the payment is arranged through bank account.

Do you already have a euro zone bank account, in France or Ireland? You can likely use this for paying your health insurance. Talk with the health insurer for payment options.

I would urge you to never close a bank account in Europe unless it is very expensive to keep open.

I would suggest you open an account for your child, who does have residence. In a pinch, you can pay your health insurance out of the child’s account.
