Visitor Visa for Servantmaid

Post by suresh.k.dasari » Sat Feb 21, 2015 12:39 pm

Hi All

I have a British passport and my wife is on a Dependant visa. She is currently carrying, so planning to go for a delivery in UK. I was thinking to bring our servant maid from India on a visit visa for 6 months, so that she will accompany my wife while I am away from home for work, this is due to my work nature involves travelling.

Can someone let me know can I apply a VISIT VISA for my servant maid?

Thanks in advance.

Regards

no, as the nature of the trip won't be for the purpose of visit/holiday.

Domestic Worker Visa, but read through the requirements to see if she qualifies

I believe this route was clamped down very hard few years back and its almost impossible to bring anyone under Domestic worker visa.

The Domestic Worker visa is the most appropriate visa for the work you have in mind. But the worker will need to demonstrate knowledge of English. Are you sure she can do that?

As for local workers, I presume from your username that you are of Indian heritage. Ask around the community for help. Some students may be willing to assist, providing of course that it does not take them over the 20 hour per week limit. Alternatively, some other housewives in the neighbourhood may offer to help out.

The formal route, in case you want a 24/7 domestic help, would be through the JobCentre. But that will cost you an arm and a leg in this country.

Mind you that even if you get domestic help from abroad, you are obliged to pay her the minimum wage of this country if she is working here. The labour laws of this country will apply to her as well. So, things like a certain number of holidays, weekends off, etc.
