Difference between (Visit>Work) and (Work) visa for Tier 2

Post by db666 » Mon Mar 09, 2015 11:14 pm

Hi folks, when browsing through the UK Visa Fees web application, I came across the following two categories:

Join Family > Work Permits > Dependant of current work permit holder = 28900

Work > PBS Tier 2 > Tier 2 applicant - main applicant and dependants = 51400

Could someone please explain the difference between the two? For e.g. if I have my wife come over on the "dependent of current work permit holder" she can work. Then what would be the need for spending the excess amount and going out of the way to get Tier 2 dependent visa?

A 'work permit holder' is a separate immigration category to tier 2 which is in fact now closed to new applicants. Your wife needs to apply as a tier 2 dependent because you will be a tier 2 migrant not a work permit holder.
