What is the validity of tier 2 visa?

I have just received my CoS and will be applying for my tier 2 visa. What is the validity of this visa? Is it 3 years or 5 years?

Your CoS will be having start date and end date. That will tell you it's for 3 years or 5 years or less than that or more than that, but can't be above 6 years.

Thanks for the reply. Who decides whether its 3 years or 5 years? the employer or home office?

Employer will mention on the CoS how long they wanna sponsor you.... And then its upto Home Office if all the docs ok, they will give you visa for the same length mentioned on the CoS, which is either 3 or 5 Years..
