Not sure whether this is the right thread for asking questions about citizenship...Both my wife and I have ILR both through SET LR, in our own rights, except that my wife got hers 6 months before me. My question kuz I'm confused: Once she's applied and hopefully gets her citizenship, can I then apply for citizenship as the spouse of a British citizen? Or shall I wait for my ILR to be 12 months and apply for citizenship in my own right?
Thank you
Completely up to you. There is no discount in fees for spouses. Only major difference is that as spouse, your residence requirement in UK is three years. If you want to apply on your own, your residence requirement is five years. Whichever way you choose, you have to be physically present at the start of that period. Click here for more information.

Hi all,

Just curious to know if anyone has applied between 30 March, 2015 to 1st April, 2015 and have heard anything back from HO? I have applied on 31 March. It is received by HO on 1st of April (through royal mail tracking).

So far I have no news from HO yet. No charges on Credit card too. Has anyone applied during that time and heard anything back from HO?

Nice to see that your fee has been deducted today...I've applied on 27/03/15 but still no fees deduction.

Hestervanderpoll,
You can asked them to send your passport back, I'm sure they will make a copy before they send it back to you. Good luck

It's been four weeks since I applied now, so I'm allowing myself to start waiting "properly". When I first applied I was hoping for a quick decision as things seemed to be moving fast at the beginning of March. But then everything slowed down with people waiting forever to even see their fees being taken (two weeks in my case). Let's hope they will clear the backlog soon and process us March applicants swiftly. Good luck everyone!

This forum makes people think wonders - being in the same boat as most of you, I was hoping for a quick turn around with no spots on character. All said, it's a waiting game, I think HO ran out of gas mid March and now it's sit back and relax time. Personally speaking, I'm relaxed about waiting, So much so, I booked myself nice break for 8 days of sunshine road trip in Europe - all this whole being unemployed. :P

There is more to life everyone than sitting and waiting for approval, get outta shells and you'd be fine. :D

janto - I am in a similar situation to you, but I agree with Rakeysh...its no point getting stressed about the approval, if it comes good if it takes longer, doesn't really matter...

Rakeysh - is that how your name is actually spelt? It's usually "Rakesh", please don't be offended btw.

Don't worry guys, I'm not getting too stressed. Being a EU citizen it makes no difference to my daily life, it just would have been nice to be able to vote in the upcoming elections. Hope you enjoy your trip, rakeysh! 8)

Not in the general election though, only in the local election being held at the same time, got a polling card for that.

I'm not stressed about the application only when it took 3 weeks to take my fees.

I would of liked it by May as I'm going on holiday in June and was hoping to use my new passport for that. But will more than likely need to get a visa on my current passport now

There doesn't seem to be any trends. I applied only a couple of days before you guys and my fees were deducted on 24/03, but no decision yet...oh well!

devstar and janto, NCS tells it could take up to four weeks for payments to be taken. Please be patient, it will be deducted, with this new April ruling there might be delays.
