I missed initial delivery on 16th so had it re-delivered today.happy1982 wrote:Hi,
congratulation on your ILR.
After how many days of approval you received your BRP card?
petu_13 wrote:Hi,
Hi Mate
It is not ILR expiry date It is Photograh which needs to be taken again after 10 years as it happens on driving licence .
Thanks

I recently got ILR approved on 10-Apr-2015 at Croydon PEO office. My BRP card shows expiry date of 31-Dec-2024 which is less than 10 years.
Is anyone else experiencing similar problem? Is this a change in process?
Thanks
I think the OP is aware the ILR does not expire but rather the question is concerning the BRP card. It was issued on 10 April 2015 so for 10 years the BRP card should expire on 10 April 2025, instead it is showing a expiry date of 31 December 2024 which is less than 10 years.KASHIF830 wrote:petu_13 wrote:Hi,

Not really a big deal. ILR is ILR even the card expires in 2 years. You just have to send them a new application(NOT ILR) to get a new photo card (BRP).petu_13 wrote:Hi,

You don't have to renew a UK passport if you stay in the UK. You do have to renew a BRP when it expires. And note that some BRP holders are not qualified to naturalise, and yet others don't want to give up their original nationality to become British.WR1 wrote:British passports needs to be renewed every 10 years too. And if you're planning on applying for naturalisation soon, it is irrelevant.

I was just wondering (a) if the strange expiry date is just for me or if there is anyone else who has same issue and
(b) is this a new process followed by HomeOffice or is it an error.
I have email them on BRP error contact and will keep you updated on their response.
Thank you for your email regarding a possible error with the expiry date on your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP).
The issue has now been investigated and the 31 December 2024 validity date is due to a requirement by the EU to restrict BRPs which do not incorporate the next generation of encryption technology.
As the UK intends to introduce the new technology during 2016 the date restriction affects only BRPs issued to adults with settled status (ILR/NTL).
Any BRP rightfully held on 01 July 2024 that is restricted will be replaced free of charge, with the balance of the 10 year period initially expected being issued on a new BRP.
This means that anyone who has paid a fee in expectation of receiving ten year evidence of settled status will still do so, but it will be spread over two BRPs.
The date restriction does not change the entitlements of the rightful holder to work, access services/benefits or travel. The rightful holder still has settled status.
I hope this information answers your queries.

Thanks for the update. My other half has her ILR approved on Tuesday and received the BRP card yesterday. it also shows the card expiry date as being 31-12-2024 instead of the full 10 years. At least we have an explanation now.petu_13 wrote:Hi All,
I've received a response on this from HomeOffice explaining the reason for expiry date 30-Dec-2024

The ILR does not have an expiry date. Its the card that does. The photo will have changed after 10 years, just like a driving licence. So after 10 years, you apply for a new card, not apply for ILR again.Althalus wrote:This is indeed worrying. Why do they state "with the balance of the 10 year period initially expected being issued on a new BRP"
and
"anyone who has paid a fee in expectation of receiving ten year evidence of settled status will still do so, but it will be spread over two BRPs." ?
Settlement should be indefinite, forever (unless taken away but that's another animal). ILR should not just be ten year "evidence" of settled status.
Basically they are saying that if you replace your permit in 2022, they will not issue you another brp with another 10 years - just 2 more years till you get 10 years ... What happens afterwards?
I had contacted them via emailMary937 wrote:Hi petu_13,
I would like to have exactly the same letter from UKBA for my personal records. Do you remember if you contacted them by email or by post to Bristol address provided on the letter please?
Thank you.
